Hardwoods of Michigan is a forty year-old company that acquires virgin timber, processes the logs, and then cuts the lumber to meet specific customer requirements. The company's annual sales volume is approximately $40 million and employ over 150 people. Their domestic and international customer base exceeds 400.
Because the hardwood lumber industry is tied directly with U.S. housing starts, in 2008-09 Hardwoods of Michigan had been in survival mode-focusing more on day-to-day operations as opposed to long-term strategies. However, through the efforts of the management team, the company rebounded strongly in 2010.
Towards the end of 2010, Robert Vogel, President and CEO, saw the need to shift the senior management focus back to long- term strategy planning - and execution.
An existing Six Disciplines client, Brian Roth of TRUFAST/Altenloh, Brinck & Co., suggested that Robert consider Six Disciplines certified business coach Scott Gray and the team at Six Disciplines NWO. As a result of mutual due diligence, Hardwoods of Michigan has joined the Six Disciplines family and are off and running.
Robert states:
"With Scott's and Dan Gonder's expertise in managing our team to execute our goals, I have already seen tremendous unity and team work. Due to this engagement (with Six Disciplines), I am confident that 2011 and the years ahead will be our best ever".
